Webmasters are aware that website design is the gateway to huge traffic on their sites. To succeed like some of the webmasters, you have to use several principles that would ensure that you get more than enough traffic. When designing a website, you have to know who your target audience is. Determine their needs, interest, technology level and availability of appropriate devices of the target audience. It is important to always remember why you are designing the website; for what purpose are you designing the website; is the site personal, educational, business, educational or for entertainment. You can then determine the location of the server for example education institution server, personal server, internet service provider and the organization server.

These factors are the main determinants of the kind of content you will put on your site. Content to be added may include text, videos, applets, sound, graphics and other things like forms for surveys. The type of content that you add to the website should meet your client’s needs and interests. It is imperative to ensure that the content is well organized, matches the purpose, is spell-checked, updated and grammatically correct. You can also include more than one language options because the site may be accessed by people from different backgrounds.

Other information that should be included in your site is who you are, mission of the site, copyright note, contact information and update note. Depending on the purpose of the site and target population, you can use different levels of web technology that will fit your purpose. Minimal style involves texts mostly and little or no graphics on the content. Such websites load very quickly because they do not have any graphics. Middle of the road style has content that has both text and graphics that complement each other. You should ensure that the content used does not go out of the purpose. Such websites also load faster than but not as fast as the minimal style websites. However, such sites are more appealing than minimal because of the graphics. The other style that can be used is the high tech style which includes a lot of graphics some of which could be have animations, applets and video clips. High tech level sites are only suitable for audience with high tech equipments that can load such pages better.

You page design should be user friendly, consistent and clear. Important information should be placed at the top of the page to be seen and accessed by the clients. Create uniform theme for all templates. Ensure that the text and the background contrast is Okay and can be read by all people.  Links to other pages and sites can be placed throughout the webpage. However, you should only place sites that extremely important. Avoid placing too many links in your website. Such a scenario will only turn your website to a linking site. You can provide tables for data that requires their use.
